A Saturday Sewing Workshop with a little twist!
Come along to this friendly, practical session held in the fabulous upstairs function room at Leeds Kirkgate Market.
Learn in a small group led by Abi of SewYou Handmade - and all you'd need to be able to do is very basic straight stitch, and even if you can't we'll teach you.
OK so what's the twist?
We've teamed up with the Leeds Markets Marketing Team AND all the amazing fabric shops AND the sewing machine shop in Leeds Market who, between them, have more fabric and knowledge than you can shake several big sticks at...
So, we'll do a short walking tour of all the fabric shops, the Sewing Machine shop, and the gorgeous Haberdashery where we'll talk through all the different kinds of thread you can get... all really good knowledge for beginners or more experienced stitchers alike.
You come away with loads of knowledge as both Abi of SewYou and the fabric shop owners will talk you through fabric, thread, and what all the fabrics are best used for and how to get the most out of your fabric purchases. You'll get this knowledge and then... there's more...
Now, the Sewing bit...
We'll then move upstairs to the huge, daylit function room which (it has to be said) is absolutely the perfect space for learning to sew because it's huge, comfy AND IT'S GOT A KITCHEN FOR TEA (yay!).
There will be a brand new Janome Sewing Machine set up for you to use, so we'll have a brew and then:
- Look at some examples of pouches you can make
- Talk through the making process end-to-end (with patterns and LOTS of diagrams!)
- See a live demo of all the steps, which you'll then follow one-by-one
- You'll get full, 1:1 support as you sew your pouch
The results of these workshops are always that people are amazed by what they've made, and some people want to give the results as gifts. The choice is yours... you can make as many as you want after this!

This workshop is for people with some sewing experience and who would like to learn how to make a lined purse, pouch or pencil case with a zip.
Prerequisites: Not many – just be able to do a straight stitch on a Sewing Machine!
